empowering young innovators to solve real-world challenges facing their communities, society, and the environment

ABOUT
NEET Young Innovators is a dynamic collaboration between the Kemp Lab at the University of Texas at Austin and partners across Jamaica, including the Negril Education Environment Trust (NEET), the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, and the Jamaican Ministry of Education. We create low-cost, high-impact STEM lesson plans rooted in active, place-based learning that help students see science not as abstract content, but as a powerful tool for understanding and improving the world. Through STEM camps for teachers and students, we cultivate curiosity, confidence, and innovation from an early age—preparing the next generation to address society’s most urgent environmental and social challenges.

Founded by four UT undergraduates and Dr. Melissa Kemp in 2021, NEET Young Innovators was initially funded through the UT President's Award for Global Learning. We are currently funded by the National Science Foundation (EAR Award # 2340910) and private donations. If you are interested in donating, please click here.
